What brass is used for pen tips and nozzles?
Free-cutting brass (also called leaded brass) is the standard material for writing instrument components because of its excellent machinability on Swiss-type CNC machines, allowing the tight tolerances (±0.002mm) needed for pen tips. Lead-free brass is used where required for safety standards.
What tolerance is needed for ballpoint pen tips?
Ballpoint pen tips require very tight tolerances — typically ±0.002mm to ±0.003mm on the ball seat and ±0.005mm on the tip hole diameter — to ensure consistent ink flow and writing quality. Precigenix manufactures pen tips on Swiss-type CNC turning machines with in-process gauging.

Can Precigenix make gold-plated pen components?
Yes. Precigenix offers Ion Plasma Gold (IPG) plating and conventional gold plating on brass pen components. IPG plating is used for premium luxury pen brands, providing consistent gold colour, good adhesion and wear resistance on brass components.
What is the minimum order for pen brass components?
MOQ is flexible at Precigenix. For standard catalogue items, MOQ starts at 1000 pieces. For custom components (new drawings or profiles), please discuss your requirement with our team and we will advise the economic production quantity.
